Yeager’s Law number one – come home safely is put to the test in this fast-paced action thriller.  Abel Yeager is a ex-marine now truck driver, struggling to make ends meet after an accident in which a pregnant woman was killed, put him out of action for a while.  He meets bookstore owner Charlie Buchanan and is only too happy to haul a load of books she purchased to her store.  Thus starts a tale of action and adventure, mystery and intrigue as Yeager and Charlie try to understand why they have been targeted.

A little humour, interspersed with a budding romance is surrounded by action in a well-crafted plot which kept me listening through the wee-hours!  Abel Yeager is a wonderful character with just enough flaws to keep him human and I really enjoyed how the relationship with Charlie was constructed.  The action is not over-done but is realistic in a way that a non-military person can relate to.  Although the twists in the plot seem to just keep coming, I felt that all the loose ends were brought together in a timely fashion that did not make me feel like the ending was rushed.

J Scott Bennett is a superb narrator and is well-suited to this author’s style of writing.  I was able to visualise the people and places and enjoyed the accents used by the narrator.  This book is really suited to the audio format and I did not notice any editing glitches in this fantastic performance.
